In addition to praying for the people of Haiti, you can also give money to go towards the relief efforts. If you would like to give through Central, you can put your donation into the offering and we will send it on to the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. Below is a letter from Dr. Anthony Jordan of the BGCO.

Dear Pastor:

The devastation, death, and suffering being experienced in Haiti are indescribable. At present, search and rescue operations are taking place. The country’s infrastructure, which was already in poor condition, has totally collapsed. The needs are overwhelming.

As Great Commission people, Oklahoma and Southern Baptists are already in the process of assessing and putting in place a plan of action that will have immediate and long-term impact in helping the people of Haiti. The Florida state convention is in the lead because of their long-term ministry in Haiti, and they are already on the ground. Sam Porter of the BGCO serves as one of four Disaster Relief leaders in the SBC who directs our Global Response efforts. Sam has already been activated.

As always, Oklahoma Disaster Relief workers stand ready and willing to serve in Haiti. In conjunction with the state conventions, NAMB, and IMB, Oklahoma Baptists will play a major role in the work in Haiti. You will be alerted and given information on a regular basis through the BGCO and Baptist Messenger Web sites as well as the Baptist Messenger printed edition. We will utilize every means to keep you updated.

The greatest need is always money. Many churches will want to take offerings and others will allow members to contribute through the church. Individuals and churches may send their donations to:

Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief – Haiti Earthquake Relief

Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma

3800 N. May Avenue

Oklahoma City, OK 73112

Every dollar given will be used specifically in the disaster relief effort in Haiti.

Oklahoma Baptists have always risen to meet the needs during disasters such as 9-11, the Indonesian tsunami, and Hurricane Katrina, to name a few. I have no doubt they will participate in a generous way to help relieve the great human suffering in Haiti. As we touch the human needs we will have abundant opportunity to share the love of Jesus.

Thank you for you for being a Great Commission people.

Yours in Christ,

Anthony Jordan
