Our Purpose
“What is MY Purpose?” Here is a question that many people have been asking since the beginning of time. “What is OUR Purpose?” Now that is a question that even takes more thought. Central continually reviews what our purpose is so that we can stay “spot on” to our calling and commission. Scriptures like Matthew 28: 18-20, Acts 1:8, and Matthew 22:37-40 help form and keep before us why the church is here. Notice the following:
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew28:18-20
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40
When it comes down to the simple basics we discover that we were created by God and for God. Even as Jesus came to do the work of the Father, so we as His followers are here for a purpose much higher than our own. There are many ways to say it but it really comes down to our relationship with God and others. Jesus said he came to seek and to save that which was lost and He tells us that we are to make disciples therefore our purpose statement is as follows:
“The purpose of Central Baptist Church is to reach unchurched people
and assist them toward becoming fully committed followers of God that, in turn, they will reach other unchurched people.”
